The Time is ... NOW???

I heard Tony Robbins the author of Money - Master the Game and Unshakeable (2 excellent books on being financially savvy - a little challenging and long to read but well worth the time and investment) say “Wouldn’t NOW be a good time” when asking someone when they should start or do something. I love inspiration and motivation but it is the results from taking action that drive me. Sometimes life will create a numerous amount of reasons or circumstances for delays. But when you really want something it has become clear to me that people will find a way.

Let’s use shopping as an example. And why not? … this is a fashion website after all. You have bills (like the rest of us), no major financial goals but know you want to get better with your finances. So you make lists when going to the grocery store. You calculate in advance how much you want to spend going out with friends before you leave the house. And you open a separate account to start saving (saving for what you are not sure yet). You take a break from your daily routine and stop at the wonderful Neiman Marcus outlet also known as Last Call which I find interesting when telling this story (Jersey Gardens, Woobury Commons or whatever you are close to). While browsing you see some really cute things and good prices but nothing moves you to want to break your new found good habits. UNTIL you see them. You know the shoes you have been drooling over for months on social media and in magazines (yes I still read magazines). They are by one of your favorite designers (we’ll pick one of mine for this story), Giuseppe Zanoti (or Brian Atwood). Weellll, you’ve been eyeballing these shoes so you know they are worth $989 at the store. You adore the shoe but your are not ready to go that far into your pockets. BUT you are at the outlet. So guess what, they are discounted. They are only a whopping $325. What a great deal. You know that is more than 50% off the original retail price. Now you are figuring out how many lattes you can sacrifice for the month to make this work. But it doesn’t stop there. The pair you had were missing the discounted sticker (must of fell off from all the people touching your shoe...yes I am claiming it is yours before you buy it). Well you notice on all the other shoes just like that in different sizes that the price was reduced another 40% down to $195. Now you have made the desicision to buy them. But not without a LOT of guilt. You can't even take them off (still trying them on and looking in the mirror) to walk to the register because the conflict in your head is too intense. “You know you will not find them at this price anywhere else. If you come back after thinking about it the chances of them still being here are slim to none. And my favorite … They are not returnable after 7 days. That doesn’t give you enough time to process the idea of you breaking your promise to yourself.” But I am not done. As you start to stand up you are noticing the sticker is purple and you see the sign that says Items with a purple sticker are an additional 50% off...discount taken at the register. Well that’s it. There is no way you are letting this opportunity slip by. There is no returning for these. You have already started standing in line at the register.

Here is the exciting thing about this story. You can apply it to your life in many more ways. You will hit several forks in the rode in life. A decision will need to be made. And delaying on making a decision to process the idea could cause you to lose the opportunity all together. The trick here is to always be prepared. Read the books, do the research, save the money so that when the opportunity presents itself you will be ready.

***Here are 3 actionable steps you can start today***

1) Write down an idea you want for yourself in a book you will keep (love the $.99 store for these kinds if books)

2)Create a routine for yourself: meditation, prayer and or working out. I find these kinds of daily activities insight ideas naturally

3)Write a simple 3-5 step action plan for how you think you will get from A to Z. Guess what this will likely change, you may have road blocks and financial challenges but if you stay focused eventually you will make significant progress

Thank you to all the life coaches, motivators and mentors like Tony Robbins and one of my other favorites Eric Thomas that encourage us to take leaps of faith by training us to first do the work to be prepared for the leap.
